Some of our most iconic Sci-fi t-shirts
Richard Mann who had to persuade a very volatile Sid & Nancy that Richard Branson's toilet was
the best place to pose for the last pictures he took of them. Tom Sheehan who approached Snoop Dogg at the height of his tabloid infamy with a pair of handcuffs and said, “How about we snap you wearing these?” Lawrence Watson who found himself in Sweden being chased away by a shotgun-wielding farmer as he and The KLF embarked on a pilgrimage to find Abba. Tom Sheehan who had to follow a Texan police car with Ozzy Osbourne, seconds after the drunken rock star pissed on the Alamo and wound up in a prison cell as a result.
If there’s one trait shared by all top music photographers it’s this one: sheer nerve. Sometimes, with as little as two minutes to get the cover shot, nerve is all that lies between you and failure. Now, for the first time ever, some of the greatest music photographers of the 20th century have come together to create a shop window for their most iconic images. Every t-shirt you’ll see on Don’t Talk To Me About Heroes bears the signature of the photographer responsible for the image on it. Photographers such as Richard E. Aaron (Marvin Gaye, Sex Pistols, James Brown) Philip Townshend (The Rolling Stones, Nico, Marianne Faithfull), Tom Sheehan (Madonna, The Smiths, Blur), Brian Griffin (Depeche Mode, Captain Beefheart, The Clash) have hand-picked iconic images from their archives to create a definitive inventory of music photography spanning five decades.
As befits the talent on both sides of the lens, quality is key. Digitally printed to order, using the finest materials on 100 per cent ethically traded cotton, Don’t Talk To Me About Heroes is a photographers’ co-operative which seeks to introduce a new standard of quality and aesthetic rigour to that most well-loved wardrobe perennial: the band t-shirt.
It is, we think you’ll agree, about time.
